Special events and festival's guests

Five Flavours is not only a delicious selection of Asian titles. It also brings an opportunity to meet the festival's guests and to take part in special events which involve a series of mahjong workshops, a butoh performance and exhibitions of film posters included in the festival's catalogue.

This year, the audience has a chance to meet and discuss films with two Malaysian directors, Effendee Mazlan, whose "Songlap" is presented at the opening ceremony, and Dain Said whose "Bunohan" was submitted to represent Malaysia as the official candidate for the 85th Academy Awards in the Foreign Language Film category.

Moreover, Igor Szczurko, the producer of the Vietnamese-Canadian "Pearls of the Far East" and Wang Shin-hong, the leading actor of "Return to Burma" are special guests of the sixth edition.

Five Flavours continue to present the cinema of the Taiwanese New Wave also this year. All the screenings are introduced by Wafa Ghermani, a sinologist and film specialist from France.

Besides, the festival hosts a series of mahjong workshops, a traditional Japanese strategic game of Chinese origin intended for four players. The workshops take place every day from 25 to 30 October in Kino Muranow’s cafe during and after the screenings.

A unique proposal is "A Gentle Creature" performace, inspired by the Dostoyevsky's classic short story and directed by Dariusz Kunowski who invited a butoh dancer from Japan, Rui Ishihara, to collaborate with him on this project.

And last but not least, it is the second time that Dorota Podlaska illustrates Five Flavours' catalogue. The artist, an Asian cinematography and Eastern culture enthusiast, interpreted the films in her original and highly personal way. Part of the illustrations are presented in Muranow and Praha cinemas during the festival.
